Team Ultimate - It's Da Bomb

What can I say – 1st place team, lots of medals, great performances. FANTASTIC!

Its Da Bomb went extremely well with over 250 competitors players taking part. It was always going to be a long day with new rules and the abolishment of the 7-point gap and 12-point ceiling. Whilst those rules did kill some games – it certainly made the day go much quicker!

Ewen Henderson -22kg – Gold in his first Championships!! Well done Ewen – great performances all day. Cracking final against fellow Team Ultimate Joe Latto.

Tyler Barwell -26kg – Tyler’s first gold in a Championships. Tyler played the tough LTA player in the semi-finals and went on to have a close match with OWEN TURNER again of Team Ultimate in the final.

Kieran Young – 45kg Junior – too easy for Kez – straight final against Aidan Morley of Kings.

Connor Young – in great form all day – lost final to LTA player on golden kick. Won 3 games to get there. Well done Connor. In the same division Brandon Naylor played well but was narrowly beaten in the semis by the LTA player.

Dominic Naylor – silver – again good performance. Was out-classed in the final by Leinster player Adam Hynes. Adam went on to receive one of the BEST PLAYER awards.

Lee Moore – bronze -74 senior male. Had to withdraw after round 1 against Neil Greaves in the semi’s. Neil went on to defeat Ruebyn Richards of Team Ultimate in a very close final.

Raz – withdraw from Final against Ryan Hennessy of OTC with injury.

Samantha Gambles – Gold. Well done – first Championships gold.

Jessica Crowley – Bronze – lost to Johanna Ho of Leinster.

Georgia O’Connor – no pee wees so had to play in children. Was a tough division and Georgia lost this time (doesn’t happen very often) to the very touch Leinster player.

Georgia Collinson – beat Georgia Barnes of BTS in the semis – lost out to team mate Tanika Harrison in the final – 37kg.

Asha Turner-Josephs – 2 GOLDS – Cadet -55 and Junior Girls -55kg – beat team-mate Shannen Dunn in the Junior final.

Oliver Hammond – bronze -22 after losing out to Joe Latto. Played a straight final -24 and took the gold. Well done Oli.

John Steele – Gold – great variety of technique today John.

Zhane Harrison – unlucky Zhane – lost out on golden kick to take the silver.

Niall Gibson – had to withdrawn from semi-final with recurring injury – GET WELL AND BACK TRAINING SOON NIALL. We need you in the kick-ass form you were in at the International.

Thanks to all the helpers for set up/take-down/clipboards on the day etc. etc.

And congratulations to new Judges – Brione, Francine, Vicky, John & Lisa. A job well done!!

Chi Championships - Sunday 21st June
A fantastic day once again for Team Ultimate – 1st place team overall (almost doubling the points of the 2nd place team and trebling the points of the 3rd place team) AND we took 1st place on the 5-Player Special Team Award with 5 golds from our nominated 5 players.

Joe Latto – faced Ryan Barnes from Chi -23kg novice. They met the other week and Ryan beat Joe 7-0. Joe had a fantastic day and the game was very exciting. Although he lost Joe’s performance was much better and the fight was very close.

Brandon Naylor - 37 Cadet Advanced– defeated player from TKD Tigers first round and met Connor Wilkinson in the semi’s. Its always a good match when these 2 play – 3-3 going into round 3. Connor got the better of Brandon this time and went on to win the gold. Well done Brandon – a well-deserved bronze. In the same division Connor Young easily went through 2 rounds and was narrowly beaten by Connor Wilkinson in the final. These 2 have met twice now and it’s a 1-a-piece score. The next time they meet should prove interested. Silver for Connor Young.

Dominic Naylor – awesome – best he’s fought yet. Won 4 games to take the gold -33kg cadet advanced. 7 – 0 against Max Surgey from Kanghan, a closer one 12-10 against Bradlley Sinden from Kings, he out-played Lewis Crocker from Manchester Aces in the semi’s and KO’s Cameron Booth from Kanghan with a turning kick in the final. Well done Dom!!

Georgia O’Connor – gold again -43 Pee Wee. No surprise there really. A non-event for Georgia this time though. She got a bye to the final and played Simone Abley from Chi in the final. Simone was obviously frightened of Georgia and cried off after half a round.

Georgia Collinson – fought well against Georgia Barnes of BTS in the -41 Cadet division. A close fight but the result went to BTS leaving our Georgia with the bronze.

Kieran Young – wanted more fights -45kg. Got the bye into the final (well gutted!!!) – where he met Chris Powell (Scorpion) again!!!! Its usually a very boring match as they play each other so much. This time was totally different – Kieran was on fire and threw everything. Looked awesome. He’ll soon be unbeatable in this division.

Ashley Hutton – a bit easy!! Gold for Ash – after combining -45, -48 and -51 juniors!!! With Ash being 17 and at the top of 51kg it was just way too easy!! Well done anyway Ash, for not killing them!!

Niall Gibson – gold in Junior – 55kg. Had it a bit easy with Tom The Wisemeister being out of action! Would have been a corker of a final!! As it was he got the bye and faced Alex Myers in the final. Alex was outclassed throughout and Niall looked strong and comfortable in his new weight division. Niall also played senior -58kg and met former Junior European Champion Scott Atkinson of Scorpion. Niall looked confident and looked the better player throughout. Was unlucky with the scoring and lack of warnings from the referee against the other player for obviously falling to the floor cost Niall the game. Good performances in both matches though.

John Steele -59kg – beat Shaun Sutherberry first round of Halton. Shaun gave a much better account of himself in the first round but once John woke up and found his feet he made it look easy to win 9-2. He went on to have a cracking final with Mitch Frizelle. We knew Mitch would be out to kill him after losing to him in the British. Very close game as always with these two. Well played John. Well done Mitch.

David Taylor – 72kg senior male advanced. Gold for David. Beat Matt Beardsley of Quest comfortably in his first game and defeated Thomas Glen of Scorpion in the final – despite Glen resorting to headbutting Dave mid-match!!

Roisin Auld is back!!!! -59kg and looking good. Had a good game with Cristina Clark of BTS firstly and then played Dum Dum (Team Ultimate) in the final. Nice to see Rois looking confident again to win the gold. Hopefully there’ll be many more to come now she’s back!!

The Liverpool branch were awesome – Golds Galore – Pete Hankin, Connor Hankin, Daniel Ocego, Daniel Smallwood, Hannah Downey-Lampety, Thomas Gater, Abigail Stones. Sorry if I missed any out. For full medal tally from Liverpooll you’d better see the results page.

A fantastic Day for all Team Ultimate players!!!! Thanks to all coaches and clipboards Jayne & Wayne!! And as always for the fantastic support for all players.
